Match Preview: Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace (Saturday, 5th August 2023, 15:00)

Our Expert: @MaccasValueBets

It’s no secret that newly promoted teams struggle to stay up. I fear that’s the case for Sheffield Utd. They’re odds on favourites @ 1.57 to go down on many bookmakers' outright odds with the lowest expected points this season of 33 based on the odds of 3 independent bookmakers.

Sheffield see off Iliman Ndiaye, the team’s star in their championship promotion. His sale to Marseille for £20M along with the departure of regular midfielder Sander Berge to Burnley this week, means panic stations have arisen with fans leading up to the first fixture of the new campaign.

Not only do Sheffield lose Ndiaye and Berge, but they also see James McAtee and Tommy Doyle return to Man City after their loan periods.

Sheffield have brought in players, but with a low budget, it definitely feels like Sheffield are entering the Premier League a weaker team than the one they had in the championship.

Once again, things are a bit uncertain for Crystal Palace as they start another season in the Premier League. They've been in this league for ten years now. With Wilfried Zaha gone, Roy Hodgson needs to find a new star player from a skilled squad. They did pretty well last season, finishing 11th.

But now, other Premier League teams are really interested in some of Palace's players, which makes things more complicated for Hodgson.

Joachim Andersen and Marc Guéhi have been great at centre-back for Palace, giving the team a strong base for two seasons. But there's a chance they might lose one or both of them before the transfer window shuts. The same goes for midfielder Cheick Doucouré, who had a fantastic first season at Selhurst Park and is being linked to Liverpool.

The play I've taken for my private group members is Crystal Palace 0.0 Asian Handicap / Draw No Bet @ 1.87. This means we want Palace to win but if they end up drawing then the bookmakers will return our stake which gives us a nice insurance policy, especially considering Sheffield’s rocky lineup, I don’t see them getting anything out of this game.

This has now shortened to 1.73 but i’m still happy to take this price.

👉 Best Bet : Crystal Palace 0.0 Asian Handicap / DNB @ 1.73 (Various bookmakers

👉 Longer odds bet : Crystal Palace Win to nil @ 3.75 (Bet365)

Match Preview: Chelsea vs Liverpool (Sunday, 6th August 2023, 16:00)

Our Expert: @monsterhunch

The first weekend of the premier league season sees a huge clash in West London between two clubs that will both be seeking a huge improvement on last season's results. Chelsea had one of their worst ever seasons in the modern era and Liverpool underachieved. Given the new directive given to the referees in England and the fact this is one of the biggest matches in the premier league this weekend, I’m expecting early fireworks and lots of cards from Anthony Taylor.

👉 Best Bet: over 4.5 Asian cards (2.0) on bet365

Match Preview: Boreham Wood vs Halifax (Saturday, 12th August 2023, 15:00)

✍️ Hello! As this is my first entry of the season for The Weekly Wager I would like to point out that I use my own finely tuned betting model which has enabled me to generate consistent profit over a long time period.

I do not place bets based on stats, I use specific formulae which allow me to consistently, considerably beat the closing odds and gives me a sizable edge over the bookies.

I won’t write this out again in future weeks, I just think it’s important to initially state the above as I don’t want to give the wrong impression.

However, I must say I do also like the look of what is laid out below and it’s nice to put together a little write-up!

Halifax started strongly in the first round of the 2023/24 England National League season with a comfortable 2-0 win against Bromley.

Halifax are on a fine run of form in the league, losing only 1 out of their last 13 games:

P13, W7, D5, L1

Goals Scored: 22, Goals Conceded: 6. GD: +16.

Boreham Wood started the season with a 2-2 draw against Gateshead.

They have only won 4 out of their last 13 games:

P13, W4, D3, L6

Goals Scored: 14, Goals Conceded: 15. GD -1.

H2H: The two results last season when these two sides met were:

Halifax 1-0 Boreham Wood & Boreham Wood 1-1 Halifax.

I originally tipped this to my Premium Group Members @ 1.900 odds.

It has now dropped to 1.725 odds 📉 however I still believe this is still some good value here at this price.

The England National League was my most profitable league last season and I’m looking forward to smashing it again in the 2023/24 season, vamos! 🚀

👉 Best Bet: Halifax +0.5 Asian Handicap @ 1.725 Odds (Bet365)

Match Preview: Curzon Ashton vs Rushall Olympic (Saturday, 5th August 2023, 15:00)

Our Expert: @Pete_Tscherewik

Curzon Ashton got their Vanarama National League North campaign off to the best possible start last weekend with an impressive 3-1 win away at Darlington.

Adam Lakeland’s side have quietly gone about their business during the off-season, securing the services of Jimmy Spencer, Cam Mason, Alex Kenyon, Miles Storey, Will Hayhurst and Isaac Sinclair - to name a few.

As for their opponents on Saturday, Rushall Olympic are very much still “learning”, according to their manager Liam McDonald. The Pics were promoted via the Southern League Central Division play-offs but look in for a tricky ride for the 2023/24 season.

The Nash realistically should have too much firepower for the visitors to handle here and having players who “love to defend,” according to the manager should bode well in terms of keeping it tight at the back too.

👉 Best Bet: Curzon Ashton to win @ 2.00 // Betfair / Paddy Power

Match Preview: Everton vs Fulham (Saturday, 12th August 2023, 15:00)

Our Expert: @scottythorn21

The first week of Premier League action sees a number of interesting clashes but the focus for my bet is one of Saturday’s 3 o’clock kick-offs.

Everton survived a relegation scare for the 2nd consecutive season and will be hoping to finish higher in the table this season. Sean Dyche has added to his squad this summer but budget constraints have proven to be restrictive in how the club operates in the market. The manager will be hoping the benefit of a full pre-season with The Toffees is enough to get his squad singing from the same hymn sheet.

Fulham were Premier League newcomers last season but they remind in the top flight with ease. They were in with an outside chance of European football at one stage but they fell away towards the end after a Mitrovic was hit with a lengthy suspension. The striker has been the subject of much speculation this summer and it is unclear if he will play today.

We are going to back over 24.5 shots in the match here. Everton matches saw an average of 26.45 shots per game last season; the 3rd most in the Premier League.

Fulham’s matches last season saw 24.68 shots per game. However, the two times these sides faced off in the Premier League last season also saw an abundance of shots. There were 36 shots at Goodison Park and 33 at Craven Cottage.; both well above what is required for this bet to land.

👉 Best Bet: Over 24.5 Shots in the Match @ 1.83 Unibet

Match Preview: Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius (Saturday, 12th August 2023, 22:30)

Our Expert: @peteryan04

Anthony Joshua makes his much-anticipated return to the ring this weekend to face Robert Helenius. Initially, Joshua was meant to face long-time rival Dillian Whyte; however, the fight got cancelled due to a drug issue. The former heavyweight champion will want to make a statement as he looks to regain what he lost.

Joshua is coming off a win against Jermaine Franklin, where he won by a unanimous decision. The 33-year-old has been the face of British boxing for shy of a decade. He has beaten the likes of Whyte, Joseph Parker, and Wladimir Klitschko. Joshua has a professional record of 25-3 with 23 knockouts. In the early days of his career, Joshua was known for finishing opponents within the rounds. Yet, since his losses to Oleksandr Usyk, ‘AJ’ seems to be fighting more conservatively. You could see it in the Franklin fight, where Joshua was happy to fight behind the jab and didn’t release the right hand very often. It is easy to forget how good Joshua is, but it is important to note that one of his three losses came from a short-notice opponent.

On Saturday, the man standing opposite Joshua is Helenius, who has a professional record of 32-4 with 21 knockouts. Even though ‘The Nordic Nightmare’ isn’t well known by the mainstream audience, he has fought notable names such as Deontay Wilder and Whyte, which means the Finish fighter knows what it is like to be in high-profile battles. His 21 knockouts show that he knows how to finish inside the ring, and because he is coming on short notice, it could pose a problem for Joshua.

Looking at the fight from a betting perspective, Joshua comes in as a heavy favourite at 1/20, whereas Helenius is a 9/1 underdog. As previously stated, Joshua will be looking to make a statement, he will try and get Helenius out of there early. However, Joshua has shown in the past that he is willing to take a victory on points.

👉 Best Bet: Joshua to win- 1/20

👉Joshua to win by points - 9/2
