Bet - Croatia vs Italy

20:00, Monday , June 24th

Croatia v Italy tonight is the game to watch. Even if you support Albania or Spain, you’re watching this game. The group of death - Group B concludes tonight and apart from Spain, there’s no guarantees for any of the other 3 teams. Croatia must win against the World Cup semi-finalists, while Italy can advance with just a draw.

Croatia's seasoned core, which includes the likes of Luka Modrić, Marcelo Brozović, and Mateo Kovačić, have shown signs of wear and tear throughout the tournament but Zlatko Dalić will be relying upon these players to provide delivery for the likes of Andrej Kramaric who has managed a shot on target in his last 9 of 10 games.

Italy’s game with Spain highlighted several areas of concern for the Azzurri. Despite only losing 1-0, the scoreline flattered Italy, as they were thoroughly outplayed. The Italians only managed 43% possession and it was only thanks to the heroics of Gianluigi Donnarumma that the scoreline remained respectable. The PSG goalkeeper made an extraordinary 8 saves.

Croatia have forced their opponents into saves recently with Albania, Spain and Portugal all conceding 5 saves exactly.

Croatia will likely adopt a more aggressive approach, needing all three points to progress and leads into a great opportunity to attack the props markets.

Bet - Netherlands vs Austria

17:00, Tuesday, June 25th

Austria have the chance to jump into the top two and guarantee their place in the round of 16 when they take on the Netherlands on Tuesday night. The stakes are high and if there is one thing that a Ralf Rangnick side can promise, it’s pain (or fouls if you want to be less dramatic).

The charismatic German may have failed to get Manchester United’s players into fighting shape, but he has certainly succeeded with the Austrian national team. His brand of gegenpressing which was adopted by the Germany national team through their period of success and it has translated well to Austria.

Take a look at this breakdown of Rangnick’s tactical approach from he first got the Manchester United job -

There has been an average of 23.09 fouls in Rangnick’s matches as Austria boss but those numbers have increased of late. His last 10 matches in charge have seen an average of 26.44 fouls, with Austria making an average of 14.22 fouls per game.

No team has made more fouls than Austria in Euro 2024 so far, with the team averaging 16.5 fouls per game. A draw is no good for Ralf’s men here so the onus will be on the team to win the ball back and prevent the Dutch from patiently waiting for their opportunity.

The Netherlands are forcing an average of 11.2 fouls in their last 10 competitive matches but the need for a positive result should mean we see an inflated count. Their encounter with France was a passive affair with both teams fairly happy with the draw.

Ivan Kruzliak las officiated an Austria game back in October 2021. He awarded 20 free kicks to the opposition on that occasion. I know referees aren’t ones to have favourites, but let’s hope the Slovakian referee really does hate Austria.

  • Bet: Austria To Make 12+ Fouls

  • Odds: 1.91 Paddy Power

  • Advised Stake: 1/3 Units

Longshot Treble

We’ve all heard that saying about lightning not striking in the same place twice, but we’ve decided to ignore that and follow up our 33/1 winning fouls treble with another (it’ not quite 33/1 this time around).

Bet - Czech Republic vs Turkey

20:00, Wednesday, June 26th

Group F is where I’m heading for my selection. The Czech Republic takes on Turkey in a clash at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. Ladislav Krejci is the man in question here.

The Czech Republic needs a strong result here. Three points would be ideal. They struggled in their opening encounter against Portugal. Things didn’t improve against Georgia; they earned a point, although it should’ve been three.

Ladislav Krejci has just signed for Girona. He’s a name we’ll expect to hear a lot more. The 25-year-old recorded four shots in their draw with Georgia. One came from a distance, two arrived from a long throw-in, whilst the other came from a corner. The defender was busy. Ladislav is a threat in the air and isn’t afraid to unleash one from afar. The proposed selection landed in that outing against Georgia.

Krejci racked up three shots against North Macedonia, the game before Euro 2024. He scored against Armenia with his head. Four days before that, he managed two shots against Norway. Again, Ladislav pulled off two shots in clashes with Faroe Islands and Albania in Euro Qualification. There must be a reason why Girona wanted his signature.

The Czech Republic looked dangerous from set pieces in their clash with Georgia. They’ll look to use that to their advantage against Turkey. Ladislav Krejci is who I’m backing.

Over 0.5 Shots On Target from Mr Krejci is appealing. I have faith that our man can produce a moment of magic. Let’s add some bigger-priced longshots, because why not.

We can back Krejci to find the back of the net at 9.50. He’s priced at 12.0 to score a header and 51.0 to score from outside the box. These are punts, so stake carefully. It’s always enjoyable when you’re cheering on a selection at a massive price.

Let’s hope the defender is involved in the attacking action. It’s a must-win for Hasek’s men. King Krejci, I’m rooting for you!

  • Bet: Ladisalv Krejci Over 0.5 Shots On Target

  • Odds: 3.50 Bet365

  • Advised Stake: 1/3 Units

  • Bet: Ladisalv Krejci Anytime Goalscorer

  • Odds: 9.50 Bet365

  • Advised Stake: 0.5/3 Units

Bet - France vs Poland

17:00, Tuesday, June 25th

In the absence of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann assumed responsibility of the armband in addition to a majority of the attacking burden. Deschamps opted to deploy Marcus Thuram in as the focal point, shifting Adrien Rabiot over to the left-wing and introducing Aurelien Tchouameni back into the double pivot. This meant Griezmann played in the attacking midfield role, although popped up in the box a lot more than usual.

Griezmann attempted 5 shots against Netherlands, two of which went down as big chances missed. 3 of his shots hit the target, as the Atletico Madrid player accumulated 0.94 xG alone, exactly double that which Netherlands fashioned as a team. That also fails to consider the chance he had when Rabiot squared it to him for an open goal - he missed his kick hence not registering as a shot. He had 57 touches of the ball against Netherlands, compared to 47 touches against Austria, highlighting his increased influence. Griezmann had 2 shots against Austria, one of which was worth 0.8 xG. Despite failing to score, he is popping up in the right places.

Griezmann has struggled in front of goal so far. Poland are the lowest ranked side in Group D, and have no chance of qualification following two losses. Meanwhile France will need a win to secure top spot, and a potentially favourable knockout draw. Regression is due for Griezmann, as long as he continues to find himself in good positions, a goal is never far away. A price in excess of 2/1 really stands out, and is as short as 1.91 elsewhere.

  • Bet: Antoine Griezmann Anytime Goalscorer

  • Odds: 3.35 Kambi Bookmakers - Unibet etc.

  • Advised Stake: 1/3 Units

Bet - Netherlands vs Austria

17:00, Tuesday, June 25th

Austria vs Netherlands takes centre stage in Berlin. France, Netherlands and Austria know they have most likely done enough to go through anyway, but the battle for top spot is wide open.

With France expected to beat Poland quite comfortably, it leaves a fight on between Netherlands and Austria for second place. Ronald Koeman’s side scraped past Poland with a 2-1 win, thanks to a Wout Weghorst 83rd minute goal, before holding France to a bore 0-0 draw. Koeman has come in for much criticism for his pragmatism, but for now it is working.

Austria were my dark horses in the tournament and have started brightly. Despite losing 1-0 to France in the opener, they were impressive and caused Didier Deschamps teams serious issues. They followed this up with a 3-1 win over Poland at this ground just a few days back.

Ralf Rangnick has revolutionised this Austrian team, implementing his stylistic high-intensity style of play, looking to force turnovers in advantageous areas. This leads to high free-kick, tackle and throw totals in their games. While I think Bet365 have priced the free kick and tackle market relatively high, the throw-in market still presents value for me.

Austria brought high intensity to their opener, while France looked to slow the game down at any opportunity. Still, we saw 41 throws, with Austria accumulating 18 and France 23. The next game against Poland was seen as a ‘winner takes all’ bout, with the risk of elimination on the line. This was a high intensity battle from the start and saw 44 throw ins.

An interesting thing to note for this game is that it’s being played at the Olympiastadion, Berlin. So far, the two games here have seen 37 and 44 throw-ins. Croatia vs Spain was the first game, with Croatia’s next game after this at the Volksparkstadion seeing a lowly 22 throw ins. Spain’s next game at the AufSchalke Arena also saw a low-throw count, with just 21 throw ins on display.

This anomaly in their games prompted me to delve deeper into throw ins at the Olympiastadion. While the two games at this ground have seen 37 and 44 throw-ins thus far, Hertha Berlin’s final five home league games also makes for interesting reading, with these games seeing 45,41,40,42 and 42 throw-ins.

Austria should be full of energy and pressing, which should see a high percentage of throw-ins.

  • Bet: Over 36.5 Throws In The Match

  • Odds: 2.20

  • Advised Stake: 1.5/3 Units

  • Bet: Over 40.5 Throws In The Match

  • Odds: 4.00

  • Advised Stake: 0.5/3 Units
